About Us

We here at the Santa Cruz Chapter of theĀ  International Dark-Sky Association are advocates of appropriate lighting-
Lighting that illuminates what is necessary, and no more.

Minimizing excessive lighting saves money, cuts pollution by using less electricity, and improves the health of both people and animals, while at the same time preserving people’s reasonable concerns about security.

This can be accomplished through correct shielding, lowering total wattage, and using warmer-spectrum lighting.

Our ultimate goal is to help establish a Lighting Ordinance for Santa Cruz City and County, modeled after this and discussed here.
